Plowshares, founded in 1976, is a non-profit early education and child care program for toddlers and preschool students. The center aims to provide the highest quality child care to families who live or work in Newton and surrounding communities.
Programs at Newton North High School serve as a lab training facility for high school students majoring in early childhood education. Lab students are under the supervision of a high school teacher and Plowshares’ staff. They study child growth and development theories and learn practical methods of classroom implementation. Their hands-on assistance provides specialized one-on-one attention for the children.
Other Programs
After school and summer camps are offered for preschool and school-age children.
Locations
The agency operations three locations, all of which are housed within Newton public school buildings. School-age programs are located at Franklin Elementary School and the Lincoln Eliot Elementary School.
