Guidepost Montessori offers bright, beautiful classrooms for infants and children through age 6. At the heart of the school is a belief that children thrive when given freedom and responsibility in Montessori environments prepared especially for them. Classrooms are light, airy, calming, and aesthetically beautiful. Each carefully chosen material is purposefully displayed to inspire exploration and caring staff members nurture children’s natural joy in learning.
Infants
The Montessori Nido community encourages infants and babies through age 15 months to move freely and learn through exploration. There are no playpens, jumpers or walkers in the classroom, which offers ample space for moving and exploring. Children are carefully nurtured and are given the time to practice activities that respond to precise moments in their development.
Toddlers
In the Montessori toddler classroom, children are exposed to rich and varied activities that are matched to the appropriate moment in the child’s development and are designed to strengthen the integration between mind and hand. These activities support a learning of cause and effect, problem solving, making choices, and goal setting. There are also plenty of opportunities to practice language development. Montessori guides speak clearly and at the child’s level, allowing students to listen while also observing the the mouth move. Children enjoy songs, read-aloud books, poetry, and illustrations. They learn to express ideas and feelings, which helps them prepare for future reading and writing.
Preschool and Kindergarten
Children aged 3 – 6 years, enjoy dedicated classroom areas and individualized lessons in the Children’s House. The oldest children are leaders, mentors, role models and helpers for the younger children who look up to and learn from their older peers. Students perform activities in a purposeful sequential order to strengthen key executive functioning skills. These practical life activities encourage children to take on meaningful independent work while strengthening the hand and reinforcing muscle motion in preparation for future writing skills. Students develop a foundation for creative expression, including such diverse areas as math, science, engineering, programming, writing, artistic expression, and athletics.
