How to solve a problem
Candymakers
Nancy Drew
Magic Treehouse
My Weird School
Flat Stanley series is entertaining for the kids
Junie B Jones
Oh and of course the Dog Man books, a huge hit
Depending on reading level, I would check out the Never Let the Unicorn (Scribble, etc.) and the A little SPOT of Kindness, etc. books.
At a higher level reading for 2nd - in addition to the Magic Treehouse series - look for My Father's Dragon, Beverly Cleary, Cat Ninja. Those are all great. My son also loved the My Weird School series. They are a bit repetitive book after book, but pretty funny for a 7 year old.
My Father's Dragon
Beverly Cleary books and don’t forget Pippi Longstocking?!
Isn’t Amelia Bedelia also good for that age group?
Copy of the list we received from school for summer reading. My son read the Magic School Bus and Magic Treehouse books all summer and Weird School. He couldn't put them down.
- The Magic School Bus, Eva Moore
- The Smallest Cow in the World, Katherine Paterson
- Magic Tree House, Mary Pope Osborne
- Nate the Great, Majorie Sharmat
- Ready Freddy, Abby Kline
- Horrible Harry, Suzy Kline
- Amelia Bedelia, Peggy Parish
- My Weird School, Dan Gutman
Try My Tooth is Loose and Nate the Great.

I took my 2nd grader to Barnes & Noble yesterday. "How I Met My Monster" was her favorite read. Great pictures and a cute story. "Creepy Carrots" is another good one. Right now, she's reading the "Stick Dog" series.
@skibabe This is a GREAT list! Our kids loved so many of these books. Nice memories of when they really started to love reading. :)
