Bigelow Cooperative, a non-profit education and care facility, is committed to providing an extended family experience and a safe and caring environment for children between the age of 3 months and 5 years. Programs are designed to nurture the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development of children. The curriculum is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy that children are inherently active and capable learners. Bigelow incorporates the natural process of exploration and problem-solving with units on literacy, math, science, social studies and the arts, as well as providing visual, auditory and kinesthetic resources to support children's different learning styles.
Bigelow Cooperative is licensed to accommodate up to 49 children. The facility has five classrooms, an indoor space for developing gross motor skills, a library, a dedicated playground, and a community garden. Classes are grouped by age group: Little Rainbow (3-11 months), Rainbow 1 (12-23 months), Rainbow 2 (24-32 months), Rainbow 3 (33 months - 47 months), and Rainbow 4 (4-5 years).
Bigelow Cooperative is located within walking distance from Harvard Square and Porter Square, at 44 Park St., Somerville, MA.
