Detailed Information

Agassiz Village, founded in 1935, is a nonprofit organization providing summer camp opportunities for children aged 8-17. Every summer, Agassiz serves nearly 500 kids, primarily from under-resourced communities in Maine and Massachusetts. The campers develop and practice leadership and life skills that will positively impact their future in education, family, and career.

Kids participate in various activities, from theater and arts & crafts, to swimming, fishing, and ropes courses. There are also special evening activities and outdoor living skills development programs.

Overnight Camp

Three 2-week overnight sessions are held throughout the summer.

Kids aged 8-13 enjoy swimming, archery, arts and crafts, dance and sports while learning leadership and life skills in a positive, enriching environment.

Teen Advancement Program

Teen Advancement teaches self-confidence, initiative and independence through activities designed for kids aged 14-16. This leadership training program focuses on goal setting, teamwork, tolerance, integrity, role modeling and community service.

Throughout the summer, teens enjoy traditional camp activities, including swimming, canoeing, archery, dance, sports and other activities.

Leaders in Training

This 14 month program provides students aged 16-17 with the resources to succeed in high school and beyond. Each candidate is required to submit an application and complete an interview prior to being selected for the program.

The camp starts with a 4-week program during summer that empowers kids with hands-on leadership experience. After completing the initial four weeks, the leaders-in-training campers participate in monthly workshops that cover college and career readiness, financial literacy, and other programs.

Facilities

Located on 320 acres along the shore of Thompson Lake, all Agassiz Village cabins have electricity, lavatory facilities and a large porch. Camp facilities also include a large dining hall, arts & crafts center, health center, sports fields and a waterfront area with a sandy beach, docks, boating and fishing.

Transportation

Round trip transportation is available from Portland and Lewiston, Maine as well as from Malden, Massachusetts.
